Rovinj, Croatia and Plitvice Lakes National Park
June 30 - July 6 Croatian wine, a foodie wonderland and one of the most stunning parks in the world were on our bucket list this week.
We started our Croatian adventure by enjoying local Croatian wines and foods. This area of the world is blessed with abundant truffles which vary by season and include the coveted “black diamonds” (black truffles).
While in Motovun, Terry visited his thriving coffee shop.
In Rovinj we were mesmerized by beautiful evening sunsets observed from a rooftop balcony at our hotel. Watching the sun set and multitude of stars while enjoying the sound of church bells and children playing soccer in the park was truly lovely.
Terry captured this photo of one of the most unique sunsets we’ve seen. It appears to have a white halo.
We traveled to Porec to visit a Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO site, which is the only complete landmark in the world built during this time (3rd -6th century). The mosaics were stunning but the whole site was fascinating to explore.
Plitvice Lakes National Park was truly one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. We hiked over 19 miles with the hope of not missing a single one of the hundreds of waterfalls and lakes.
This photo gives you a sense of how the light illuminates the falls and the incredible color of the water in these lakes.
After a very active day, we were very pleased to enjoy the spray from this fall while we posed for our selfie.
Lakes and waterfalls are fed into each other and from underground creating a stunning and verdant landscape.
This photo is intended to give you a sense of the sheer scale and magnitude of the rock cliffs, height of the falls and lakes. This is a tiny glimpse into what is in store for visitors throughout the park. Wonderous!
We wanted to share one last waterfall picture from the park so we never forget the beauty of nature and the gift of this trip of a lifetime. In our first 6 days in Croatia we have already walked 62 miles to see as much as we can of this beautiful place.
