South Dakota
Although we came to visit Wind Cave National Park, we had limited success accessing this national park. However, we enjoyed our time visiting iconic sites in South Dakota.
Mount Rushmore is such an impressive work of art. As you hike closer, you begin to notice details not visible from a distance including Teddy Roosevelt’s pince-nez (monocle-style) glasses.
A newly celebrated artist has emerged on the scene in SD and he has entitled his latest piece, 5 presidents. He gave me permission to feature his work in this blog.
Visiting Crazy Horse monument was one of our favorite experiences. The inspiring story of the indigenous people, their heroes and the polish immigrant that they commissioned to memorialize their hero and the story that has unfolded over the last 75 years is very inspiring.
This is the rendering of what the monument will look like once completed. Beyond the monument however, an impressive museum of Native American history and culture and a university have been established on site to multiply the impact of this important body of work.
This, on the other hand, is the rendering of what Terry will look like on his 65th birthday, the day after he wins the drawing for this amazing motorcycle being raffled off to raise money for the Crazy Horse monument.
During our time in South Dakota we saw up to 4 coyotes. Either this coyote was following us, or we actually saw 4 coyotes roaming the SD hills.
