Southern Sicily (Mediterranean Coast) April 24 - 29

The UNESCO Valley of the Temples is one of the most mesmerizing sites in the world. These are some of the remains of the ancient city of Akragas, the 4th largest city in the known world and the best preserved Doric temples outside of Greece. The temples of Concordia, Hera and Hercules and the tomb of Theron are stunning.

Stacy had no idea that side planks originated with the Greek in Sicily. Here she is trying to ensure she captures the technique for her own workouts.

This view from our room afforded relaxed admiration of the temple of Concordia during the day and when illuminated in the evening.

We visited Scala dei Turchi (Stairs of the Turks) and enjoyed the stunning white cliffs shaped like a giant staircase and indigo blue sea.

An excursion to Eraclea Minoa provided Stacy with private access to a natural beauty treatment on a photogenic beach.

A natural mud rock is massaged onto the skin, baked on for 10 minutes, then rinsed off in the sea. Voila! 10 years are erased from your skin in just 10 minutes.

This treatment along with 53.5 miles of walking this week were transformative. Terry was questioned by the Italian police for why he was able to date such a young girl.

Terry was beginning to feel tired of pasta and seafood. We found a Sicilian/Irish pub and some red meat to make him feel more at home in Sicily.

Appertivi are provided complimentary with any drink order and Italians usually enjoy them with drinks from 5-8 before dinner. We ordered two glasses of prosecco and received the following snacks. Hard to believe that the Italians are generally quite fit. Possibly they feed all this fattening food to tourists who gladly consume it to feel more Italian.

Almost daily Stacy visits cathedrals, basilicas and churches. Each are unique and unbelievably beautiful. The sound of church bells ring through the towns daily. What a glorious experience.
