A piece of heaven on earth- the Amalfi Coast
May 18 - May 27 It seems as though heaven meets the earth on the Amalfi Coast. We enjoyed reliving some of our 25th anniversary memories and creating new ones.
Fabulous food was a highlight this week as tuna was in season and we enjoyed it daily.
Zucchini flowers fresh from the garden stuffed with ricotta cheese and served in a lemon sauce. Fabulous!
Always eager to make new friends, Stacy befriended both ceramic and real donkeys.
The size of the lemons on the Amalfi coast are remarkable. we enjoyed them filled with sorbet in Amalfi.
Stacy considers herself a bit of a pasta gourmand and her favorite pasta in Italy also had a lemon ricotta filling. Fantastic choices that are fresh and mostly healthy.
To counteract all of our excellent food we hike the Path of the Gods which entailed over 1300 stairs up and then another two hours, but whose counting. This week we visited 8 towns and logged 45 miles. Over the 7 weeks, we have logged 301 miles walking in amazingly beautiful places.
The views during the Path of the Gods hike were otherworldly beautiful.
You can end the Path of the Gods hike in postcard pretty Positano.
Or, there are other options…
We celebrated a romantic dinner at our hotel while enjoying a beautiful sunset in Praiano.
During a boat tour of the Amalfi Coast we enjoyed the naturally blue waters in Grotta Azzurra discovered accidentally in the 1920s.
In 1343, Amalfi (a maritime powerhouse) slid into the sea during an earthquake. The Cathedral was rebuilt and is exceptionally beautiful, equally so is what remains of the original church and 12th and 13th century mosaics and relics displayed in the museum.
Terry is all smiles after arriving in Ischia having successfully mastered the grueling SS163 highway from Salerno to Sorrento, a treacherous 30 mile road that winds through the Amalfi Coast. Only the brave or foolish choose to drive this perilous road that is breathtakingly beautiful and impossibly narrow and winding.
