Elephant Hills
Stacy’s long anticipated elephant experience in a stunning national park in Thailand was even better than expected and made her birthday celebration even more memorable.
A 60th birthday celebration for Stacy included glamping at 2 sites in the Khao Sok National Park, kayaking, and playing with and feeding elephants.
Stacy enjoyed playing with the 14 elephants that are cared for at Elephant Hills. We learned that Asian elephants have only 1 finger on their trunk, unlike African elephants that have 2. Asian elephants also have fewer toes.
Stacy was so excited to play with the elephants that Terry had to zip her into the tent and padlock it so she would not sneak out early to go play with the elephants.
Not even a torrential rain during our boat ride enroute to the elephants could dampen our spirits.
After learning how to prepare food for the elephants, we enjoyed feeding them and watching their playful nature.
Of the 14 elephants at the camp, they ranged in age from 18 - 80. Asian elephants are smaller in stature, less likely to have tusks and have smaller ears and different coloring than African elephants.
When we first arrived, the elephants were enjoying playing in the puddles and spraying themselves with the water that drenched us during our visit.
The location of Elephant Hills in Khao Sok national park provides for stunning scenery and the necessary space for the elephants to thrive.
