THE SPIRITUAL CORE OF BALI - UBUD

Elephant pants were sooo Thailand. A sarong is required in Bali for entering the temples. Terry is showing a little leg to keep you interested in reading our blog from Bali.

Our first week in Bali was filled with exploration of some of the natural wonders including the beautiful Tegenungan Waterfall.

Stacy took an exhilarating swing over the beautiful rice fields in Bali. This is a bucket list item fulfilled for her on this amazing adventure.

Ubud is the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali. We were so impressed by the Legong dancers who showcase intricate and impressive eye and hand movements in this dance form.

We had no idea that eye dancing was possible. It seems that even seniors can master this skill. Keep a close “eye” on us during our next get together.

Never one to be left out of the fun, Terry volunteered to try on one of the Barong dance costumes for the next performance at the Ubud Palace.

Speaking of monkey business, we heard that the monkeys at Sacred Monkey Forest were crafty, but we had no idea that they knew how to take selfies with our camera.

Over 1,000 monkeys thrive in the Sacred Monkey Forest and will happily share whatever you bring into the forest.

When not praying at the temples, tourists enjoy creative and tasty libations in Bali. This particular drink is named “ashes”. Can you guess why?

Speaking of drinking, Terry and Stacy decided that despite their reservations, they would try Luwak coffee which is a coffee bean that has been digested by a Luwak (animal) and then is used for coffee. It is supposedly less acidic. Terry fondly referred to it as “poop” coffee. Unfortunately, we didn’t buy any to bring home, but it wasn’t too crappy. :-)

The entrance to most of the Bali Temples are usually guarded by a gateway named Canang Sari which is believed to be the symbol of purification point and serves as a reminder for visitors to leave behind any negativity or worldly problems before entering the sacred place. Terry seemed a bit skeptical, but gave it a try anyway.

Stacy found time to enjoy some of the popular Instagram locations while in Ubud. She is still waiting for an uptick in her followers.

Watching Balinese dance under the stars at Ubud Palace while experiencing this local performance with a full orchestra and especially talented dancers was an unforgettable memory. Now we are headed to the Bali beaches in Seminyak.
